Today we will take a look at a complete rottweiler vs pitbull comparison. First of all, we will consider a Pitbull terrier and a rottweiler who are both pureblood. There must be no mixed genes here or the comparison won’t be accurate and realistic. Let’s see which dog breed is more suitable for you and your needs.

Rottweiler Vs Pitbull. Basic Comparison

Some of you may say that a rottweiler vs. pitbull comparison is not needed due to the fact that these dogs are almost the same. In reality, they are extremely different. For instance, a Rottweiler can reach between 22 and 27 inches in height, while a Pitbull can reach 17 to 21 inches. Weight is different as well. A Rottweiler will be between 80 and 135 pounds in weight, while a pitbull can be between 30 and 65 pounds.

Temperament is different as well. Rottweilers are loving, loyal, and confident. Pitbulls are loyal, energetic, and affectionate. Health is average with Rottweiler and above the average in pitbulls. Pitbulls have a high energy level and live between 12 and 16 years. Rottweilers have an average energy level and can live between 9 and 10 years. They are almost two times more expensive than pit bulls.

Rottweilers are an extremely old dog breed, and they were present in ancient Rome. There, they were bred to take care of cattle and protect them from animals and enemies. Pitbulls are a newer dog breed, and the term actually refers to four dog breeds. In general, a pitbull is a dog of Bulldog and Terrier descent. Here we can see Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Bullies, American Pit Bull Terriers, and American Staffordshire Terriers.

Appearance Differences

Both of these dogs look scary and dangerous. This is the only similarity we can see in this scenario. This also means that there are no other similarities between the breeds.

Rottweiler is much bigger. Almost 2 times the size of a pitbull and has black color hair only. The rust colour is present as an addition to certain parts of the body. The hair is longer than a pitbull’s, but it is still considered short.

Pitbull is a much smaller dog, with even shorter hair. On the other hand, they can be seen in almost any color. Experts recommend that the official and accepted colours are grey, brindle, white, and blue. They can be seen in other colours as well.

Completely Different Temperament

Here we can see one myth. People claim that a Rottweiler and a pitbull are both dangerous, guard dogs who will protect the owners at all costs. In reality, this is far from the truth. These two have extremely different temperaments, and there are no even slight similarities.

Rottweilers are created to be guard dogs, and you can see this as the main part of the temperament. They like to guard, and they will spend hours and hours walking around the yard and revealing their presence to strangers. Intruders are not welcome here, and you probably won’t enter a premises with a Rottweiler inside. This dog won’t require you to cuddle him every single moment or for you to be next to him.

A pitbull is completely different.

They will want to play even with strangers or intruders, and they will even invite them in, so keeping a pitbull as a guard dog is a mistake. We must add that this is a common mistake. Some people believe that pitbulls are excellent guard dogs. This is not true, and they are not bred for that purpose. On the other hand, they like to cuddle all the time, and they want to spend a lot of time with their owners.

In addition, pitbulls love spending time with all people. They can suffer from separation anxiety if you don’t spend a lot of time with them. They cannot entertain themselves, so you are a mandatory person in their life. An interesting fact here is that Rottweilers won’t even notice your absence as long as they get food and the ability to exercise.

Another fact we would like to mention here is that pitbulls have a temperament similar to golden retrievers. As such, they are extremely friendly dogs. But owners can train them to behave differently. Many piitbulls are used by gangs all over the globe to protect drugs and criminals from the police.

Both Breeds Need 60 minutes Of Exercise Per Day

When it comes to exercising, both breeds are highly energetic breeds that need plenty of exercise per day. In reality, you need to give them 60 minutes of exercise, or they will become sad and gain weight. Of the two, pitbulls are even more energetic. Both breeds need the ability to run fast, jump, and use their powerful bodies. You have probably heard that rottweilers love to play with their owners. This is actually true, and this is their favourite game to play.

You can keep both dogs close to children, but this isn’t something we would like to recommend. These are strong and powerful dogs, and as such, they can easily make a mistake and injure your child. If you want to watch all of them play, you will have to be cautious.

Both dog breeds have a very strong bite. The Rottweiler is the strongest of them all, and he is ranked number one. He has 328 pounds of pressure, which is stunning. On the other hand, pitbulls have a strong bite as well. He is ranked third on the list with 235 pounds of pressure. Considering its much smaller size, this is definitely an impressive and interesting thing to know.

The Final Word

Here you were able to see a complete rottweiler vs pitbull comparison. All we can add at the end is that Rottweiler is bigger, scarier, and a guard dog. Pitbulls are great friends and playful dogs who look appealing. The bottom line is that they are completely different and they will be appealing to different types of owners. Which dog breed do you prefer?
