One way or another, dog hair will end up on your carpet. Yes, it will end up on and in the carpet, just to be clear. How to get dog hair out of carpet easily is one question almost all dog owners have on their minds. If you are one of them, you will want to get the most effective and simplest solution. Today, we will cover all of the best methods and also reveal some that work, but not exceptionally well.

Methods That Are NOT Great

Before we give you the ultimate answers to how to get dog hair out of carpet question, we must cover a few methods that barely work. You have probably heard of using sticky tape, wet hands, and fabric softener. The idea is to clean your carpet on a budget and get all the hair out of it easily. Sadly, this barely works or doesn’t work at all.

You can wet your hand and rub your carpet. You should end up with a huge ball of fur on your hand. In reality, you will end up with a hand covered in hair and nothing more. Other methods work in the same way. You will remove a small portion of the hair and nothing more. On the other hand, these methods are time-consuming. Let’s take a look at more effective methods.

Best Methods To Get Dog Hair Out Of A Carpet

Here is the main part of the article and the one you will need to take a look at. These methods are the most effective of them all, and they don’t require a lot of time to be used.

That’s why we prefer these over the aforementioned ones and claim that all dog owners who have this issue (most of you) will need to try all of these. Keep in mind that one or a few methods will work better than others, depending on your carpets, hair size, etc. Try all of them in order to determine which one is ideal.

Using Hand Squeegees

Hand squeegees are not designed for this purpose. However, they work perfectly. The rub works well against all types of hair, and it works like a magnet. It will literally trap most of the hair on the carpet and hold it tight.

This works better than sticky tape or a roller with the same medium. Keep in mind that you need to move the rag in short motions and clean it as soon as it captures too much hair. In addition, this method can help you remove hair that is trapped deep inside the carpet.

Using Carpet Rakes

You have probably seen carpet rakes somewhere. There are a lot of types and even more variations out there. Well, these are ideal if you want to remove dog hair from the carpet. These units come with a long handle and soft rubber or plastic bristles. You will use the same moves as in your garden, and you will have to remove the collected hair every few minutes. The method is excellent for two reasons.

The first reason is efficiency. As we have mentioned, this works well, especially with thick carpets. Secondly, the method can recover old and worn-out carpets. They will look almost brand new once again. This trick has been used by real estate agents for a long time!

Special Vacuum Cleaners

These are not the same vacuum cleaners you already have in your house. These are specially designed for this purpose, and you can see that they look similar but have major differences. Some have a rotating accessory that will loosen the hair first.

Yes, you can get an accessory only for your vacuum cleaner, but these are not ideal. The best option is to get a proper vacuum cleaner for this purpose. The only drawback is the price. A full-size model will cost you a lot, but it should be considered if you have a massive dog hair issue. However, you can get a used one or a smaller model that is more affordable.

Metal Hairbrush

A hairbrush with metal bristles is an effective and cheap method. You can find these in any pet shop, and you can start using them immediately, obviously. Don’t forget that short strokes are mandatory. Metal bristles will collect the dog’s hair and trap it permanently. You need to remove the hair once you are done and continue doing the same thing.

This method cannot be used on sensitive surfaces. You will not want to use it on your furniture, for instance. We liked the fact that it is cheap and very effective.

Rubber Gloves and Rubber Broom

These two methods are based in a similar, almost the same way. Once again we can see rubber being extremely effective in this case scenario. Well, it is a simple truth, and there is one method that works better than almost anything else.

First of all, you cannot use latex gloves. You need thick, rubbed ones, and you can get models that are specifically made for this purpose. They work like a charm. The only issue is the fact that you will need a lot of time. Use this method as an addition to another one and use it for corners and smaller areas.

Using a rubber broom has the same advantage and is much better for large carpets. It can help you collect all the dogs’ hair from bare floors as well.

Conclusion

Now you know how to get dog hair out of carpet like a professional. You can still try and use some of the “entry-level” methods we covered at the beginning. These are cheap or completely free, but not very effective. If you have a serious dog hair issue, using one of the five professional methods we have covered is the best thing to do. Just pick one or two you like.
