Is Yout Dog Losing Tail Hair? Often, you have noticed hair loss on the tail of your dogs and got worried about their health. You might have gone wild with your anxiety about your companion’s health, visit the veterinary hospitals, search the web for the related guide and home remedies. The following passages provide the essential principles on the reasons and the home remedies you can try to treat hair loss in your dog.

Reasons Why Tail Hair Loss Happens!

Dog tail comes in various sizes with softness and styles, from fluffy to nubby. The tail for the dog is much more than just the decoration piece; they express themselves through the tail. You can find your dog happy and excited when they wave their tails.

But what causes the tail to lose its hair? How does it all happen? What factors contribute to the dog’s tail hair loss? There can be a multitude of reasons, from diet to the environment. The primary reasons why the dog tail losses hair are as follows,

Chewing Of or Falling Off

In the case of the hair loss of the tail, you need to distinguish between the dog chewing them off or falling off. In the case of the dog chewing off the tail’s hair, you will find the broken, rough, reduced size, wet and curly hairs. If the chewing-off is severe, you will find patches and sores on the skin and inflammation as well.

If the hair falls off, the skin will be smooth without the signs of inflammation, and hairs will be soft; there will be no broken or frizzy hairs. Further, you will find no stickiness or moisture on the skin.

Allergies

In case of allergies, you will find the dogs chewing the tail hair off. Among the allergies, you will find the atopy to be more common, as this depends on the environment and the diet, which will cause the dog’s tail hair to fall off or urge the dog to chew the tail hair off.

Fleas allergies that cause dermatitis may also cause tail hair fall. Sensitive dogs show severe reactions to such infections and can leave you perplexed in such cases; you need to visit the vet right away on the first sign you see. Flea dermatitis causes itchiness, continuous scratching of the tail, dog chewing its tail continuously. That is the first sign that you need to take your pet to the nearest vet clinic and get the necessary treatment.

Dogs allergic to the environment and food will feel itchy to the point that they will start self-inflicting injuries due to excessive scratching and chewing.

In some instances, you might find the dogs losing their hairs due to scabies, a parasitic infestation that causes the dog skin to be itchy and inflamed. You will find the patches of hair over the skin and the dog scratching the tail intermittently.

Hair Loss Due To The Worms

Worm infestation also causes the dogs to lose their tail hairs. Primarily because of the anal worms that cause the dogs to lick the base of their tail at the anal region and scratch because of the continuous irritation.

Anal Gland Issues

The issues of the anal gland can also cause the tail hairs to lose in dogs because they might have the anal glands impacted, which can cause them to bite or chew their tail; this can happen in case there is some infection that can urge the dogs to chew and scratch the tail, giving the appearance of the rat tail in the dogs.

Hormonal Imbalance

Hormonal imbalance can cause hair loss in dogs’ tails; this happens mostly in Cushing’s disease, also known as hyperthyroidism. An overacting thyroid can cause your dog’s tail to lose the hair that adds beauty to his body. The same can happen when the thyroids are underworking.

Some dogs are genetically exposed to Cushing’s disease, leaving your dog more vulnerable to this condition. The hair loss is not more prominent in such dogs, yet the hair coat is relatively thin.

Treatment

You can find many remedies to help you grow your pet’s hair back. To get the maximum and effective results, you need to remove the cause first hand. You will need to visit the doctor if some parasitic issue or any infection is causing the hair loss. After getting the necessary treatment on the hair loss of your pet, you can use some homemade recipes that can help you grow the hair back and restore the beauty of your pet.

Besides, the doctor prescribed medication that might be necessary in case of a parasitic infection that can help you control and prevent further infection; you can move forward to the hair restoration.

  • Lemon juice: lemon juice has been proven to improve hair growth, its citric acid fights off the bacteria and promotes natural hair growth, keeping the skin smooth and fur shining.
  • Aloe vera: it is famous for its healing and anti-allergic properties. It alleviates allergic reactions and reduces inflammation. It provides a soothing effect and helps reduce inflammation and ease the dog’s itches. The natural enzymes of the aloe vera remove the dead skin cells, promoting the growth of the new cells and helping with the nourishment of the skin.
  • Health supplements for hair growth: you can also use hair growth supplements to help your dog restore the hairs, increasing and improving its beauty and appearance. The omega 3 and omega 6 of these supplements reduce the inflammation, and the essential minerals and vitamins help promote hair growth.
  • Apple cider vinegar: you might have it known for its many benefits within the body and fr external uses. On the skin, it competes and kills the bacteria or any fungal infection contributing to hair loss and leaves the skin smooth and soft with natural hair growth promoting cells exposed.

Conclusion

Dog losing tail hair; these can be parasitic or bacterial infections. Proper care and on-time treatment can treat any hair loss. There are several home-available remedies that you can use to promote hair growth and improve the tail skin of the dogs.
