Many dogs will hide at some point. They have been doing that for ages and they will still do it in the future. Why do dogs hide in the bathroom? This is a bit more interesting topic than generic one such as ‘’why dogs hide’’.

In this article we will explain all the reasons you need to know about and we will reveal them in detail. All you should know is that a dog hiding in your bathroom doesn’t always have to be a bad thing.

He Wants To Be Alone

Dogs are social and we assume that they are always going to be like that. In reality, dogs do need privacy sometimes. Why do dogs hide in the bathroom? They want to be alone and they will hide in the bathroom simply because it is usually empty.

Some dogs need privacy all the time while others will rarely need it. Perhaps he was playing and was busy the entire day hence he wants to be alone for a couple of hours.

Your Dog Is Scared

If a dog is scared, he will hide. Yes, most dogs will hide in a room or under a bed, but some will hide in the bathroom. They believe it is a safer place to hide and they know they can be all alone. Loud noises, storms, fireworks and so much more can cause anxiety and scare your pet. If he is hiding in a bathroom when the noise around the house is high, you will know why.

We must add that your dog can fear almost anything. Even phobias are common in this case so you may want to try and understand your pet even more.

Stomach Issues

This is possible only if you have trained your pet to go to the bathroom, in the bathroom. If his stomach hurts, he will go to the bathroom. He believes that he must poop and he will obviously go to the place where he has been doing this a long time. If your pet is not trained to go to the bathroom in this way, this is not the reason why he is hiding there. Once again, you may want to take him to a vet.

Ideal Place For Playing

Many of you don’t consider the bathroom an ideal place to play. But your dog does. He can find a lot of useful things there and he can play with all of them.

For instance, he can play with toilet paper, something many dogs love. Others will want to play with the toilet brush. In general, there are a lot of interesting things to play with in the bathroom. Add the privacy and you can see why a dog will want to play there.

Strangers Are Coming

Some dogs simply don’t like strangers. Many of them will bark at your guests and be nervous around them. But some dogs will just hide. Once again, we can see that the bathroom is an ideal place for that. It is even possible that your pet sees your guests and goes to the bathroom immediately. It can look funny but you should deal with that.

The Bathroom Is Cold

If your pet is hiding in the bathroom when the temperature is high, you will know why. He is too hot and he wants to cool down. Bathrooms are usually much cooler than any other part of the house and they are ideal for this purpose. This is not a dangerous and severe issue most of the time.

But, if your pet has been doing this all the time and he looks sick or too tired, heatstroke may be responsible. Remember that some dogs don’t tolerate high temperatures well.

To Protect Himself

Dogs are able to smell and hear things we simply cannot. He can use the senses to smell the rainstorm for instance. Once this happens, he will hide. A bathroom is an ideal place because it looks more isolated than the rest of the house. Pay attention to when your dog is hiding in the bathroom. If the earthquake or storm is coming and he does this, you will know why.

Depressed Dog

When a dog suffers from depression, he will want to hide. He will hide in a bathroom or some dark and cool place. He believes that there he is all alone and nothing can affect him. This can be a severe issue. Dogs are happy and they will always want to run around. If a dog is depressed, he may suffer from some illness, he may lose someone or he has some other problem. A vet check is a wise thing to do in this case scenario.

The Final Word

Now you know the answers. Why do dogs hide in the bathroom? There is some issue and the bathroom will help them resolve it. In most cases, you should try to help him. For instance, a dog who hides in the bathroom when guests arrive is not ideal. Try to help your pet understand that there is no need to hide and he will be perfectly safe next to you.
