Is your dog suddenly peeing in the crate? Dogs don’t like to pee and eat in the same small area. This means that they won’t pee in the crate where you feed them. But, dog peeing in crates suddenly is one of those problems that may appear at any given moment. Why does he do this, and what should you do? Below we will explain the things in detail.

Dog Peeing In The Crate Suddenly

Urinary Tract Infection

A dog peeing in a crate suddenly is most commonly caused by a urinary tract infection. If you think for a moment, you can deduce that he didn’t pee in a crate, and now he’s started doing this. As such, urinary tract infection is the most common answer. Your pet is unable to control his bladder properly, and he can’t get out. He will pee literally everywhere he can.

URI is more than just common in older dogs, and this can come in many variations. The most important thing to do is to take a urine sample to a vet and rule out any issues that can cause URI. You can also look at some symptoms. For instance, dogs with this issue will pee all the time, the pee will have an extremely bad odor, and it may be dark in color. If you notice this, take him to a vet immediately. The URI is unlikely to be sorted out by itself.

You Have A Too Big Crate

Believe it or not, this can be the explanation. If you get a crate that is too big for your dog or even a puppy, he will have so much space inside that he will feel comfortable peeing and eating in the same area. Of course, this affects only dog owners who have replaced their crates recently.

The issue may be tricky to sort out. You need a crate for your dog that is just right. It must not be too big or too small. The best thing to do is to shop the crate according to the dog’s breed.

He Can Sense The Urine Odor

If he can sense urine odour inside the crate, he may pee there almost every single day. Let’s imagine a scenario in which your dog had an accident and peed inside the crate. He can smell the urine, and he will feel comfortable peeing there once again. This explains the reason and should also give you a possible solution. The goal is to use cleaners that will remove the odour completely, so your pet won’t smell it anymore. As a result, he won’t pee inside the crate anymore.

He Spends A Lot Of Time Inside A Crate

Yes, some dogs can spend a lot of time inside a crate and they will have to pee inside it. This is common for dog owners who work all the time and who don’t have a lot of time to invest in their dogs. Sadly, there is no easy fix here. You will have to find time to spend with your pet or you will need to hire a person who will take him outside when needed.

Your Dog Is Still A Puppy

This is another reason that is extremely common and actually makes a big issue for certain dog owners. If you have a puppy or puppies who are under 6 months they don’t have bladder control. They pee once per hour so you can get the idea. They will pee inside a crate almost all the time and you need to react.

The only thing you can do in this scenario is to take him outside once per hour or at least as often as you can. You can start with house training at an early age but this will likely continue until they get bladder control and they can hold.

Separation Anxiety

Yes, it is possible that your dog has separation anxiety or that he suffers from isolation distress. This happens when you leave your dog alone at home for too long or when you don’t give him a lot of attention. As a result, he will pee inside a crate. Keep in mind that this is just one of the things he will do, and you will need to react.

You need to start spending more time with him and playing more. You need to take him on long walks and enjoy, for the lack of a better word. You can also hire a person to do this instead of you, or you can hire a professional trainer to make sure your dog is properly trained.

Something Scared Him

As you know by now, dogs don’t like to pee and eat in the same area. But if something scares him, he will pee anywhere he is at the moment. If he is inside the crate, he will pee there. Then we can see that urine will leave a strong odor, and your dog will want to pee there again and again.

Even you can scare your dog so much that he will pee inside a crate. If you yell, if you show signs of aggression, or if you break things around the house, your dog will be scared of you! Some dogs are more sensitive than others, and they can be scared easily.

Other Things You Can Consider

Dogs who pee in crates are actually common. Regardless of why he does this, you need to act and stop the issue. There are many more reasons why dogs do this, and it can be an annoying issue to sort out. First of all, there is a bad odor. Then we can see that this isn’t the healthiest area for your pet anymore, and most people don’t like to see dogs peeing inside a crate or inside a house. Find the reason why your dog does this and solve it as soon as you can.

Conclusion

A dog suddenly peeing in a crate is something many dog owners have to worry about at some point. Now you can find the reason for this and solve it within days. It is a mandatory thing to do, period.
