Why Does My Dog Hump My Boyfriend and Not Me? This is probably the most awkward question to answer. However, it is unlikely to be as uncomfortable as the day your dog began humping your boyfriend!

All kidding aside, what motivates dogs to behave in this manner? I’ve read reports of dogs humping at inopportune times before, but this is one in particular that has some intriguing behavioural explanations.

When you embrace and kiss your lover, your canine companion will hump him out of envy, a need for love, to assert their superiority, curiosity, playfulness, and potentially sexual pleasure if he is not spayed or neutered.

Here are ways to learn how to prevent it and how to gain access to your dog’s mind before it occurs. Please continue reading.

Why Does My Dog Hump My Boyfriend and Not Me?

You’ve arranged a nice night. Candles have been lit. The cork has been removed from the wine container. The food is nicely baking. Your boyfriend enters the room on the schedule. You embrace and hold him… and then apocalyptic mayhem ensues!

Your dog chooses to welcome him, whichmeans 2 front paws wrapped around him, pumping and thumping furiously at his legs. This is an Awkward situation that you hope is just a dream.

I get it, it’s humiliating, but it’s unlikely motivated by sex.

The second point to remember is that humping occurs regardless of the gender of your dog. Males and females hump in almost similar proportions. Although it could be your lover today, a neighbor or coworker may be the next humping survivor.

They do it out of excitement or playfulness. Alternatively, they are envious of the praise he is receiving from you and want to assert their superiority.

Under any scenario, it is unlikely to be about your boyfriend at all, but more about your curiosity about meeting him, which is transferred to your puppy.

Reasons Why Does My Dog Hump My Boyfriend

1. They are envious and want attention.

Sometimes, dogs hump in order to assert dominance.

When your dog witnesses you hugging your boyfriend, he or she can feel jealous. This implies that your dog will try to gain the upper hand in order to establish themselves as the superior one…and hump your boyfriend, which will elevate them to the role of alpha.

2. They are ecstatic.

When we discuss people, the word “arousal” is almost invariably used in a sexual context. However, this is not the only concept. Arousal’s second description is as follows:

“The act of inducing intense emotions or enthusiasm in another person.”

You can incite hostility. You can instil anxiety. Additionally, your companion will arouse joy in your puppy, which means they are simply excited to see you, which can appear as a psychotic humming episode.

Typically, when dogs hump, they are not imitating mating activity. Nonsexual excitement is more likely to elicit a hump in a puppy. “It’s simply a strategy to expend energy or alleviate stress.”

During the humping process, they might be seeking affection and releasing bottled-up energy. This is another explanation why humping is so prevalent in puppies that are excessively enthusiastic about everything.

3. They are amusing themselves.

As roughhousing is a type of play for dogs, it is very normal to see dogs hump each other during playtime.

It’s similar to a child’s game of war. We’re not sure we get it, so to each their own, right?

It’s not a sexual matter in this situation. The dog is actually playing for your friend in this manner. If they have not been socialised to avoid huddling people, they would see your companion as fair game, much like every other dog.

4. The dogs have not been neutered or spayed.

If your companion is not spayed or neutered, he or she can hum to release sexual energy.

Even now, the situation is not about your boyfriend. It’s more likely that they’re using the partner’s leg to masterbate.

I am aware… Isn’t it strange?

It has little to do with whatever romantic desires they might have with your mate. They are simply releasing pent-up electricity.

What To Do If Your Dog Is Humping Your Partner

What To Do If Your Dog Is Humping Your Partner

Excitation

Excessive curiosity is unavoidable when the dog is young. The most effective strategy is desensitisation through socialization. That is a fancy way of suggesting that you ought to socialise your dog by exposing him to a variety of people.

Regular socialisation with other people and pets helped him overcome his overexcitement whenever we had visitors.

Amusement

A strong strategy for resolving humping through playfulness is to ensure that Fido is fully exhausted by the time your lover comes to visit.

Conduct a thorough tug-of-war. Take a long, brisk stroll. Indoors, engage in a psychologically relaxing game.

Whatever captures your dog’s interest and induces a little relaxation would work wonders.

Vaccination or Neutering

This is somewhat self-explanatory, but neutering or spaying the dog can resolve many behavioural problems with one fell swoop… but not everything!

Such behavioural issues that may be resolved by speaking or neutering include the following:

  • decreased desire to flee and drift
  • Reduces aggressiveness.
  • Reduced clinginess
  • reduces the amount of “scent tagging” (urinating) in the building and other undesirable places.

Training

Any dog-owner partnership requires training. Do not be scared to discipline the dog for inappropriate conduct.

The foundation of training your dog not to hump or climb your houseguests is mostly based on immediate punishment. It is pointless to attempt to teach them how to do what they are now engaged in.

When you see your dog humping another person’s neck, gently drag them down and clearly state “no.” This should convey your displeasure with this action.

Similarly, if the dog welcomes a guest in a “polite” manner, that is, without leaping, overpowering, or humping them, praise him or her with encouraging affirmations.

Good training and time can teach the dog how to act well with visitors and visitors.

Training can serve as the foundation for this correction. The most enduring tips is to train your dog not to hump your boyfriend or some other house guest.

However, there are moments during the preparation phase where a fast fix is desired. Distraction is the fastest cure of all.

Distraction

Distracting your dog creatively with treats or games anytime your significant other comes can quickly diffuse the problem. A toy or bone is useful since the noise attracts small dogs.

You may also enlist the assistance of your companion in distracting them.

As soon as your companion comes in the house, they will immediately engage your dog with a treat or toy. Your dog would be too preoccupied to mount their legs!

While diversion is a fairly foolproof strategy, as I previously said, it is just a temporary fix.

Bottom Line

Whether you and your lover wind up having a long-lasting friendship, these strange humping situations will be all you will joke about in the years to come.

While it might be embarrassing now, it will be the topic of discussion at dinner parties.
