The Golden Retrievers are among the breeds of dogs that are more energetic than all other breeds of dogs. Usually, the first thought that comes to mind is, “How to calm down a hyper Golden Retriever”?

Calming the golden retriever is a challenging issue. There are several things to do to calm down the hyper Golden Retriever. The best thing to do is to apply different tips in combination to get better results.

Golden Retrievers usually calm down at the age of around 2-3 years of age. Many factors calm down Golden Retrievers at this age. These factors include maturity, chemical balance, confidence, and others that will help Golden Retrievers calm down and chill out.

However, every dog is different, and there is no magic age when our Golden Retriever can calm down. Let’s talk about some methods you can apply today.

Methods To Calm Down A Hyper Golden Retriever

Several methods will help to calm our hyper golden retriever. The best approach is to combine multiple tips and perform them concurrently.

Excercise

Golden Retrievers were bred to perform the high-energy task for many hours per day. Thus, it is not surprising that this breed of dogs requires a lot of exercise, and if they are not getting enough exercise, they will become hyper.

Therefore, providing enough exercise for the golden retrievers is the best option to calm them. Providing them training for one hour is ideal. The best training for golden retrievers is to play “Fetch it” with them.

The main advantage of playing with golden retrievers is that it is a very efficient method to wear them out without wearing yourself. Running with the golden retrievers will make you tired long before you wear them out.

Another option to provide high-energy exercise to golden retrievers is to walk with other dogs. This method will also help to wear out the golden retrievers as dogs play a lot with each other, and they expend a lot of energy in playing with each other.

Training is another option to provide golden retrievers high-energy exercises. It will help in several ways. The first positive impact of training on golden retrievers is that you can train to tell the dog to stop when it becomes hyper, and training will make them listen to the owner.

Training will aid in expanding the mental energy of the golden retrievers that will, in return, wear out the dogs. Exercise will make the dog wait for the commands before attempting to do things like running outdoors.

There are several things in the training that a golden retriever can learn. The foremost thing in training is to teach the dog to “stay.” This “stay” command will teach the dog to stop any misbehaving quickly. It will also make the dogs more socializing.

The second part of the training is the command of “come.” The “come” command will also help stop a hyper golden retriever, and it can come to you when misbehaving.

The third essential training that a hyper dog requires is to teach them not to run away in certain situations like when the leash is off or when the door is open. This command will help you to keep the dog safer and prevent any sudden injuries.

Ignore Hyper Golden Retriever

Another reason for Golden Retrievers to become hyper is that they want more attention from the owners. However, it is not good to teach them that becoming hyper will gain the owner’s attention even it is inadequate attention.

To make sure that Golden Retrievers don’t learn that by becoming hyper, they will get the attention, ignore them when the dogs are looking for attention. Give attention to the Golden Retrievers when they calm down.

Calming Toys

Several chewing products are available in the market that will help you to calm down the Golden Retriever when it becomes hyper. Providing this chewing material to Golden Retriever before that start of or after they stop misbehaving will help calm the dog.

Dietary Supplements

Another way to keep the Golden Retriever calm is by providing them with the right supplements. This will help to keep the nerves and digestive system calm.

An appropriate balance probiotic diet can maintain the average cardiac level and prevent the Golden retriever from getting over-excited during any stressful condition. Several studies show a specific probiotic strain will aid in calming down the Golden retriever suffering from anxiety.

These methods will surely help calm the Golden Retrievers when applied separately or in the combination of two or more.
